Sharon Wigdor Byers

Sharon was raised in Ada, Oklahoma and attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Law Enforcement Administration in 1994. She attended law school at Oklahoma City University School of Law, graduating in 1997, where she received the CALI award for academic excellence in trial advocacy.
Upon graduation from law school, Sharon became an Assistant District Attorney in Oklahoma County, where she handled a wide range of cases from misdemeanors to murder cases. During her time in the District Attorney’s Office, she tried many cases to juries. She left the District Attorney’s Office in 2000 to expand her expertise into family law practice.
Sharon has volunteered for Oklahoma Lawyers for Children, representing children whose parents have been accused of abuse and neglect and has donated countless hours to pro bono representation of indigent people through Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma. She has been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association since 1997 and a member of the Family Law Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association since 2000. She is also a member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association and former co-Chair of the Family Law Section of the Oklahoma County Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in every county in the State of Oklahoma, as well as the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. She has even had the pleasure of representing clients in Federal Court prosecuting international child abduction cases under the Hague Convention, which have resulted in successful outcomes by reuniting children with parents and guardians in other countries.
Sharon has over nineteen years of experience handling all aspects of family and divorce law, ranging from complex divorce and family law matters involving difficult child custody disputes to high-value assets and property distribution agreements. She has served as a private Guardian Ad Litem representing the best interests of children in cases, as well as a mediator for other attorneys trying to reach an agreed upon resolution of cases.
Sharon's desire to help others lead her to form the Oklahoma Guardian Ad Litem Institute to serve children in middle to lower income families to give the children a voice in family litigation that involves them, as well as to assist other attorneys in litigation involving children by providing education, training and resources throughout Oklahoma.
